Den Helder, just another town somewhere in the North of Holland. But today is not a day like all the others for Maarten and Emiel, the two sons of an ordinary family. Maarten has joined the Marines and is about to leave for Lebanon for a six-month mission. On the other hand, this is the very day when his brother Emiel is released from prison.

In an uninhabited house, Éden and Charlie meet and, through their explorations, discover hidden secrets that force them to confront their repressed desires and come to terms with their identities.

In 1979 Tarkovsky began the production of the film The First Day (Russian: Первый День Pervyj Dyen′), based on a script b y his friend and long-term collaborator Andrei Konchalovsky. The film was set in 18th-century Russia during the reign of Peter the Great and starred Natalya Bondarchuk and Anatoli Papanov. To get the project approved by Goskino, Tarkovsky submitted a script that was different from the original script, omitting several scenes that were critical of the official atheism in the Soviet Union. After shooting roughly half of the film the project was stopped by Goskino after it became apparent that the film differed from the script submitted to the censors. Tarkovsky was reportedly infuriated by this interruption and destroyed most of the film.

Yvonne Rainer's first film, "Hand Movie" (1966), was shot by fellow dancer William Davis when Rainer was confined to a hospital bed, recovering from major surgery and unable to dance. The resulting six minutes of footage is a sustained close-up shot of Rainer's hand against a grey background as it stretches and contracts, bends and points, performing the kinds of everyday, quotidian movements that characterize her pioneering minimalist choreography.
